I just got this 81 honda cm400t. The motor seems ok as well as most things with the bike, but the starter will not turn over when it is in the bike. We have taken it out, cleaned the brushes and connections, and tested it in every way we can think of. When it is out of the bike, it seems to run fine. The motorcycle battery powers it fine when hooked up with cables, but when we mount it back into the bike, it will not turn. We have tried by-passing all wiring with cables from several different batteries and still no luck when it is mounted in the bike. I am at a loss, does anyone have any further suggestions or help?
