RE: Honda CX500 problems

I have a honda 78 Hondamatic CB400A .... After ten years of just sitting you are lucky it starts at all ..... first thing to check is the spark and make sure that it is at least medium intensity (close to white) and that the timing is OK (You will have to use an ignition tester that flashes when the spark goes off .... you point it at the flywheel) You probably will have to remove the carburetor and check the float adjustment and clean every passageway .... especially the idle mixture fuel dispensary (nearest the butterfly) ..... you may need to plug every hole in the carburetor while forcing grain alcohol through the fuel inlet of each carburetor ..... this may unplug the idle mixture passage way.
