I was a (somewhat)a beginner (hadn\´t ridden in 15 years) when I got the bike. Its been fine. Being a female I had to get it lowered and that really helped out. Now I love the bike. I guess my suggestion if the person is at least use to motorcycles, comfortable with the idea of riding them, its a good bike because they won\´t get sick of it right away like if you got them a 250. However, if you really new, and kinda of timid, better to go with something with less power like a 250.
