Hi all! I just bought a used 1999 883 Sportster from an old friend who knew I hadn´t ridden since I was a kid and we both benefitted from the deal. He didn´t have the space anymore due to a growing family and I wanted to get into the scene locally since most of my friends already had Harley´s albeit much bigger bikes. I was kind of apprehensive to go out and buy a new big bike and wanted to get something smaller to start with. I´m that big myself, 5´9" and 170 when it rains so I like the deal as well since he didn´t really want much for the bike. My question is this: I am trying to educate myself on my bike and don´t want to keep asking him as I said before, a couple of new boys have arrived in his house and I am trying to leave him time for that. I want to know how to find out what model 883 I have. I know it is an 883 Sportster and is a 1999 model. What else can I find out by looking at it? What about the letter names that Harley´s have, i.e. FLX, FLST, etc. How do I find out about that and any manuals so I can know more? Also, I know you can upgrade or customize any Harley to your hearts and wallets content but is there a good site about doing that for specifically an 883 from 1999 or maybe just a good starting point on the Web?
