I just purchased a 1984 Honda XL 350 R. I am familiar with street bikes but not dirt bikes. A basic difference, and now, problem with the dirt bike for me is the kick start. I can start it, but as the weeks have gone by, it has become increasingly difficult to start and,occassionally the green neutral light does not come on in neutral. I am waiting for a shop manual to arrive, but until then I have to ,spend hours trying to start it. It was tuned up when I got it and started fairly easily. I try to get the compression stroke before I kick but it starts hard. Are these bikes just cold-blooded? Any suggestions ? Maybe a bad battery? Magneto?
