My girlfriend is 5´3" and she rides my Kawasaki VN 250 Eliminator. Its only a 250 but its as big as the bigger bikes. I dont think you can get them in the US. I am a beginner myself and here in Australia you can only ride a 250 or less for the first 12 months. How much bigger where you planning on going. My instructor said that if your feet can touch the floor then you can learn to ride it. But powerful bikes tend to get away from people who are not experienced. So as a beginner I would suggest shop around and dont go back to the shops where the guys are obviously biased against women.
