John, I feel you on the 6th gear thing but...like any touring bike made when the speed limit was 55, I dont think they intended on it cruising any faster than 60-65. I will tell you one thing that will help is by changing the main jet in the carburetors. THe stock jet is a 78...change it to a 90..then, since the engine is getting more gas, put a cold-air intake in lui of the stock airbox. What this will do is allow you to cruise comfortably at about 1,500 RPM\´s LESS than what it is now. Your mileage will not suffer (as that is what I love about mine) and you will get a little more low end power but mostly, like I said---you will be able to cruise at about 1,500 RPM less than what you are now.
