98 thundercat speedometer

I bought the bike recently and it needed a new speedo cable. I have replaced the speedo cable. The speedometer needle was on the right side of the little pin that holds the needle in place at 0-mph, so I took the housing apart and put the needle back where it belonged (to the left of the little pin). Figuring it was fixed...didnĀ“t pay too much attention at first but later noticed that the needle moved back around (made a full circle) to the opposite side once again. Why is it doing this? I have tried moving it back three times now with no success as the needle keeps going back. Help!
