Winner of the last five-straight world motocross championships, Yamaha’s YZ450 line has achieved the kind of domination reserved for very special packages.
The YZ-F legend was built on the courage to innovate and the determination to win, but what has kept Yamaha’s four-strokes in front is our attention to detail. The ’06 YZ450 was popular among riders all the way from C grade to pro, because of its useable power spread, outstanding agility – and importantly – confidence-inspiring engine reliability.
For 2007, the hallmarks remain, but we have arrived at a more responsive engine thanks to a new carb setting and camshaft lift angle designed to increase low to mid-range punch. And a lighter engine balance weight has not only sharpened throttle response but made directional changes easier thanks to less gyroscopic force from the reduced mass balancer.
A tough new clutch featuring a lighter pull allows easy operation of the five speed box while a larger diameter titanium exhaust promotes efficient combustion.
That strong and reliable five valve engine is still housed in a controlled flex aluminium chassis but a host of tweaks highlights Yamaha’s philosophy of machine and rider integration resulting in a more tactile bike/rider relationship as sensations are transmitted more clearly than ever.
The better the rider and machine can understand what each other is saying, the faster the lap times fall, and the sooner you get to the podium.
