My VFR800 had been playing up so the my local dealer gave me a Hyosung 650 as a loaner.
Review of the GT650 submitted on 2008-09-25.

I received a text from my wife.
´A nice man has taken your bike away to be repaired and left you with a loaner.´

I came home from work curious to find out what id been left with, I was expecting an ER5 or a CB500 etc.

On opening my garage door the site that greeted me was both unexpected and to be honest a little disappointing.
I’m not a fan of naked bikes at the best of times, and V twins have never interested me either. My bike is my main means of transport and being late September I needed my plastic around me.
My VFR wasn’t coming back any time soon so I decided to throw a leg over the 650 and find out what this rather bizarre bit of kit was all about. I’m quite a big fella but the first pleasant surprise was how comfortable it was, a little wobbly and light after my Honda but felt reasonably safely planted on the road, It had the usual naked bike feel where you can see the petrol tank tapering up to the headstock making the whole thing look a bit thin and flimsy, those of you who have ridden Suzuki Bandits can probly relate to what im going on about.
When I got it out on the open road it became quite clear to me that I was going to have allot of fun on this, The 650 V twin accelerates cleanly from about 3500rpm all the way up to about 9500rpm and I have to say I was surprised at just how quick this bike is, the power delivery is more than enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck to spring up and the first time I opened the throttle in third gear I was taken completely unawares, I suppose in a way that the point I gave it some respect as a serious motorcycle, and soon began to throw it round corners like a rag doll with a very wide grin on my face.

You know your riding a V twin but the motor is incredibly smooth after about 3000rpm, and the exhaust note under load is somewhat addictive, It feels strong and safe on the road, you can use it for commuting around town and scratching through the twisties with total confidence and piece of mind, it can get a bit blowy on motorways but its not very heavy so I wouldn’t expect anything else,

At night time the lights are just about the best I’ve experienced on two wheels, a refreshing change from some of the puddles of light I’ve had to navigate with over the years. My only personal criticism with the one I’ve had is that it’s a naked bike which of course is all down to personal taste.

I must admit I have thoroughly enjoyed the short time I’ve had with the Hyosung to the point where I would consider owning the faired version as my main bike. Id never even heard of Hyosung until I clapped eyes on this one, after riding it I think the main big Jap names should watch out, like I did its easy to stay stuck in your ways and only go for Hondas, Yamahas, Suzuki’s etc, If you get chance to try a Hyosung then I urge you to give it a go. Absolute 10 out of 10. Well done Hyosung.
